Cinematographer Mehrdad Fakhimi dies at 69

TEHRAN -- Prominent cinematographer Mehrdad Fakhimi died of pulmonary disease at his home in Tehran on Tuesday. He was 69.
He had worked with veteran filmmakers such as Bahram Beizaii, Ali Hatami, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Mohammadreza Honarmand, and Shahram Asadi.Fakhimi was born in 1939 and was a graduate of cinematography from Germany. He began his activities with the short films “Bread and Alley” and “Hassanlu Cup.”
He began his first major professional project with Beizaii, filming “The Stranger and the Fog” in 1974.
“The Crow”, “Death of Yazdgerd”, “Captain Khorshid”, “The Peddler”, “Pickpockets Don’t Go to Heaven”, “Travelers” and “Blade and the Silk” are among his credits as a cinematographer.
Fakhimi was awarded two Crystal Simorgh of Iran’s Fajr International Film Festival for “Captain Khorshid” by director Nasser Taqvaii and “Travelers” by director Bahram Beizaii.
His latest work was filming the movie “Who Killed Amir” by director Mehdi Karampur.
His funeral procession will begin at the House of Cinema on Thursday and he will be buried in the Artists Section of Tehran’s Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery.
